Theatre roles in demand across the Eastern Cape

Anaesthetic nurse: supports induction, airway management, patient monitoring and medication checks alongside the anaesthetist.
CSSD / sterile services: responsible for decontamination, instrument packing, autoclaving and theatre tray assembly.
Day surgery, endoscopy and cath lab: shorter operating lists and more predictable hours, often making these roles a good fit for nurses balancing work with family commitments.
Floor / circulating nurse: keeps the theatre running smoothly, managing counts, stock, positioning, specimens and all the essential runner duties behind the scenes.
Recovery / PACU nurse: provides post-anaesthetic care, monitoring, pain management and safe handover to the ward.
Scrub nurse: manages instruments and the sterile field across a wide range of specialties, including general, orthopaedic, cardiothoracic, neuro, gynaecology, urology, ENT, ophthalmic, maxillofacial, plastics and robotic surgery.
Theatre unit managers and shift leaders: oversee list coordination, staffing and stock control, particularly valuable in units where senior theatre cover is limited.
